ode to equinox

today I am visiting autumn

with my mind’s eyes

the crisp, clean air

fills the dazzling blue skies

the smell of woodsmoke,

and crushed fallen leaves

in burnished shades of ochre,

pumpkin and mahogany

and all at once

the connection to earth

and her astounding display

to decorate the hours with color

before she slips away . . .
